SCHISM in SMS
Introduction
SCHISM (Semi-implicit Cross-scale Hydroscience Integrated System Model) is a powerful hydrodynamic model designed for simulating coastal and estuarine dynamics. It is widely used for applications such as:
- Coastal and estuarine hydrodynamics
- Sediment transport modeling
- Water quality simulations
- Storm surge and tidal analysis
SCHISM is integrated into SMS (Surface-water Modeling System), allowing users to build, run, and visualize simulations within an intuitive graphical interface.
Model Controls and Interface
Accessing SCHISM in SMS
- Open SMS and create a new project.
- Import or create a computational grid suitable for SCHISM.
- Assign SCHISM as the active model within the Model Selection menu.
Key Menus and Tools
- Project Explorer: Displays SCHISM-related files, model settings, and simulation results.
- Model Control Panel: Allows users to define simulation parameters such as time steps, boundary conditions, and solver settings.
- Mesh Tools: Provides options for refining the model grid and defining computational nodes.
- Simulation Run Manager: Used to launch and monitor SCHISM simulations.
Setting Up a SCHISM Simulation
- Import a bathymetric dataset and generate a model grid.
- Assign boundary conditions (e.g., open boundaries, river inflows, tidal forcing).
- Configure model parameters in the SCHISM control settings.
- Run the simulation and review output files within SMS.
