A set of step-by-step tutorials have been developed to aid in learning how to use WMS. The most current list of all available WMS tutorials is found in the WMS Learning Center.
To get started with WMS, it is generally recommended to go through the tutorials in the following order:
Accessing WMS Tutorials
Tutorials can be downloaded individually by subject matter in the WMS Learning Center. Both the PDF of the tutorial and the ZIP file containing the data files for the tutorial need to be downloaded separately.
The tutorials are organized on tabs:
- WMS - Basic WMS tutorials discussing how to use the WMS interface, basic watershed modeling, and elevations.
- Hydrology - Models such as HEC-1, HEC-HMS, NSS, various rational models, MODRAT, and spatial hydrology modeling.
- Distributed Hydrology - GSSHA.
- Additional - Hydraulics and floodplain modeling, storm drain and sanitary sewer modeling, EPANET, and water quality modeling.
When downloading the tutorial files, it is recommended that they be saved somewhere other than the Program Files directory, such as a dedicated directory for all tutorials. This keeps the files organized and prevents interference with other applications on the user's computer.
Training Courses
Many users have become proficient using the tutorials. The next step toward more in-depth learning is attending WMS training courses. Training courses allow for dedicated time and practice in learning WMS and can be adapted to individual needs. Aquaveo conducts first-class training courses in water resources modeling on a continuing basis throughout the year. Instructors have many years of experience in software development of computer programs for scientific modeling and visualization.
Aquaveo offers Continuing Education Units for each course to assist customers in meeting state registration board requirements for P.E. license renewal.
A list of upcoming WMS training events is maintained here. Additional training courses can be requested at the bottom of that page.
