Extract Streams

The Extract Streams tool extracts or maps stream cells from a flow accumulation image. By applying a user-defined threshold to the flow accumulation values, it determines which cells are classified as streams based on their accumulation values. Cells with values exceeding the threshold are marked as stream cells, with lower thresholds capturing more extensive stream networks and higher thresholds capturing fewer, more significant streams.

Input parameters

  • Input raster D8 flow accumulation file – The input raster streams file is a grid-based dataset where cells represent stream locations, typically derived from flow accumulation data.

Output parameters

  • Output raster file – Enter the name for the new raster.
  • Threshold in flow accumulation values for channelization – Specifies the minimum flow accumulation value required to classify a cell as a stream.
  • Flag indicating whether a background value of zero should be used – Determines whether the output raster should use a background value of zero for cells that are not part of the stream network.
