There are three basic steps in the hardware lock installation process:
1. Installing the lock itself
2. Installing the hardware lock software
3. Running the Enable Wizard'
An explanation of each of these steps is outlined below. Most of the installation process has been automated with an automatic installation wizard.
NOTE – The hardware lock contains an electronic circuit board, so handle it with care throughout the installation process or at any time when it becomes necessary to transfer or handle the lock.
STEP 1:
Installing the lock itself
Connect the lock to the parallel port on the back of your computer. The parallel port is a connector on the back of your computer’s CPU that is the same size as the hardware lock. The port may already have a printer connected to it. If so, the printer can be simply hooked to the back of your hardware lock.
Action:
* If you have a printer attached to your computer, disconnect the printer cable. * Attach the hardware lock to the parallel port of your personal computer. * Fasten the screws on the lock so that it is firmly connected to the computer. * Attach the printer cable to the back of the hardware lock. * Firmly fasten the printer cable screws to the hardware lock.
STEP 2:
Automatic Hardware Lock Software Installation
The automatic install does almost everything for you – from installing the system drivers to applying any patches you might need. On the CD containing your modeling software, there is a Utilities folder. In the Utilities folder there is a folder called HwLock. This folder contains a program called Setup.exe that will install all of the correct drivers and patches. It automatically detects which drivers and fixes are necessary and installs them to your hard drive.
If you do not have a software CD, you can download the latest drivers for your server and hardware lock here: Parallel Port Locks and Server Drivers.
There are two types of software that the automatic install puts on your computer. 1) the Rainbow System drivers and 2) the Security Server. The security server only needs to be installed once - on the computer where the hardware lock resides. In contrast, the system drivers need to be installed on every computer that will run your modeling-software.
Action:
* Insert your product CD into your CD-ROM drive. * Close any programs currently in use as you will have to restart your computer after the installation in order for the new drivers to take effect. * From the Start bar, select Run. * For a Parallel Port lock, type the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive followed by a colon and the string \utils\hwlock\setup * Follow the prompts. * Run the installation routine on all of the computers that will be using your modeling software. When installing on the machine that will have the hardware lock attached, select "Install to Windows Startup Folder" in the NSRVGX Options dialog box. When installing on machines that will not have a hardware lock attached, select "None" on the NSRVGX Options dialog box. This will tell the program to not install the Security Server program on these computers. * Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
STEP 3:
Verify the Installation using the Enable Wizard
The enable wizard automatically enables your modeling package. It will search for your hardware lock and the associated drivers. Once they have been found, your software is configured to work according to the modules that you purchased.
Action:
* Start the XMS software. * If the Enable Wizard doesn't appear, go to File | Register. * Click the Enable Wizard button. * Select Network hardware lock and click Next. * Set the desired network lock settings. Consult the troubleshooting guide for more information. * Click Next and then click Finish.
