The SMS screen is divided into six main sections:
# Main Graphics Window
# [[SMS:Project Explorer|Project Explorer]] – this may also be referred to as the Tree Window
# [[SMS:Toolbars|Toolbars]]
# [[SMS:Edit Window|Edit Window]]  
# [[SMS:Menu Bar|Menu Bar]]
# [[SMS:Static Tools|Status Bars]]
 
Normally the main graphics window fills the majority of the screen; however, plot windows can also be opened to display 2D plots of various data.
