The following is an initial list of the more significant changes that will soon be coming in GMS 8.1. More details will be added as the release of GMS 8.1 gets closer.

  1. 64 bit
    • GMS 8.1 will come in both 64 and 32 bit versions.
    • ArcObjects does not come in 64 bit so it won't be available in the 64 bit GMS version.
  2. Faster MODFLOW I/O
    • Reading and writing large MODFLOW files is much faster in GMS 8.1.
  3. Multiple light sources
    • Lighting Options have been updated to allow for multiple light sources and multiple lighting schemes.
  4. Annotation improvements
    • Many improvements have been made to the annotations initially introduced in GMS 8.0.
  5. FEMWATER improvements
    • The FEMWATER interface has been updated including several dialogs.
    • The FEMWATER executable has been updated to included a number of bug fixes.
  6. Updated GlobalMapper library
    • GlobalMapper version 1.35 is included in GMS 8.1 which removes a conflict between GlobalMapper and ArcObjects that resulted in a crash when loading raster data via ArcObjects.
