To open this window, at least one node or nodestring must be selected. After a selection is made, select the ADH | Assign BC... menu item or use the right-click menu.

ADH boundary conditions consist of two types: Dirichlet and Natural. Dirichlet data is applied on the domain to individual nodes or to groups of nodes (defined with nodestrings). Natural data (flux) is applied through edges of the domain defined by nodestrings.

Natural boundary conditions: (available only for nodestrings)

  • Flow (unit flow per unit length) - NB OVL with FR MNG, used to define either inflow or outflow.
  • Sidewall (no through flow) - FR MNG, creates a vertical wall with a specified roughness.
  • Subcritical outflow - NB OTW with FR MNG
  • Total discharge - NB DIS with FR MNG

Dirichlet boundary conditions: (available for nodes and nodestrings)

  • Subcritical inflow - DB OVL
  • Supercritical inflow - DB OVH
  • Pressure lid (depth underneath) - DB LDH, i.e. a structure (ex. culvert, sluice gate, etc.) defined using bed elevation as datum.
  • Pressure lid (draft) - DB LID, i.e. a floating object (ex. boat, dock, etc.) with draft.
  • Pressure lid (elevation) - DB LDE, i.e. a structure (ex. culvert, sluice gate, etc.) defined using the elevation datum.

All mesh boundary edges that do not have a boundary condition will be treated as a frictionless sidewall with no through flow.

All boundary conditions listed above can only be assigned to the mesh boundary, expect the pressures lids which can be also be assigned to the mesh interior.

Dialog Description

The following controls specify the boundary condition to be assigned to the currently selected entities.

Boundary Type

Boundary type combo box contains the conditions available (listed above) for the selected entities.

Series data curve button with the associated Series time units combo box, and Specify curve fit tolerance check box and positive integer edit field defines the data to be associated with the selected boundary type. The text label above this curve button will change with the boundary type to denote the type of input. Clicking on the curve button will open the XY Series Editor. This control group correlates to the XY1 card.

Manning's n roughness or Skin friction coefficient real number edit field correlates to the FR MNG card. This is available only for Natural boundary types.

Velocity data control group includes the Specify Velocity Series... button with the associated Series time units combo box, and Specify curve fit tolerance check box and positive integer edit field. Clicking on the Specify Velocity Series... button will open the Velocity Series Editor. This control group correlates to the two XY1 cards necessary to define a velocity series and is available only for Dirichlet conditions that include velocity series.

Output (untitled group box)

Output calculated flow across this entity check box is available only for nodestrings and correlates to the FLX card.
