When making film loops, XMS may display the following error message:

"Could not create movie. A required dependency may be missing. See xmswiki.com/wiki/Media_Feature_Pack"

This message usually means XMS is running on an edition of Windows which does not include media features. The issue can be fixed by installing a free optional Windows feature.

Is Windows affected?

The following steps will help you find out if you need the extra feature.

  1. Right-click on the Windows Start Menu button and click System.
  2. Under the Windows specifications heading, look for Edition.
  3. If the edition ends in N or NK, proceed to get the Media Feature Pack in order to generate film loops.
    • Example: "Windows 10 Pro" does not need the Media Feature Pack. "Windows 10 Pro N" does. So does "Windows 10 Pro NK".

Getting the Media Feature Pack

If the edition of Windows is affected, resolve the issue by installing a free optional Windows feature.

  1. Open the Start Menu and type "Manage Optional Features".
  2. Click on the top item to open the Settings app.
  3. Click Add a feature at the top.
  4. Find the "Media Feature Pack" feature and check the box next to it.
  5. Click the Install button.
  6. After installation completes, restart the computer.

It is recommended to try generating a film loop again to see if this resolved the issue. If the issue was not resolved, contact Aquaveo technical support.
