SMS:Annotations Workflow

To create annotations, using the Annotations module in SMS, do the following:

1. Create annotation objects.

The following annotation objects can be created: 1. Create text objects. Select the Create Text Object File:Tool CreateText.png tool and click on the area in the Graphics Window where text is to be added. Select screen space or world space if this is the first annotation object being created. In the Text Properties dialog, enter text to be displayed and select the text font, color, background, and border. 2. Create a scale bar. Select the Create Scale Bar File:Tool ScaleBar.png tool and click on the area in the Graphics Window where the scale bar is to be added. Select screen space or world space if this is the first annotation object being created. In the Scale Bar Properties dialog, enter text to be displayed and select the text font, color, background, border, and anchor positioning. 3. Create a north arrow. Select the Create Annotation North Arrow tool then click and drag an area in the Graphics Window for the north arrow. Use the Open dialog to select and open a north arrow image. 4. Create oval or rectangle objects. Select the Create Oval Object File:Tool Oval.png tool or the Create Rectangle Object File:Tool Rectangle.png tool then click and drag an area in the Graphics Window for the rectangle or oval. Select screen space or world space if this is the first annotation object being created. In the Rectangle/Oval Properties dialog, define the line style, width, and color along with specifying a fill color or no fill color. 5. Create a line or arrow. Select the Create Line Object tool then click out a line in the Graphics Window. Select screen space or world space if this is the first annotation object being created. In the Line Properties dialog, define the line style, width, and color along with specifying arrowhead positions and size. 6. Add an annotation image. Select the Add Annotation Image File:Tool AddAnnoObject.png tool then click and drag an area in the Graphics Window where the image will go. Use the Open dialog to select and open an image.

2. Edit annotation objects.
Use the Select Annotation Objects File:Tool SelectAnnoObject.png tool to select any annotation object. Click and drag on an object to move it. Click and drag on an object's corners to resize it. Right-click on the object to delete, duplicate, or bring up its properties dialog.
