There are three coverages that are specific to the HydroGeoSphere model: boundary conditions, observations, and hydrographs. The coverage type is set by right-clicking on a coverage in the Project Explorer and selecting Coverage Type→HydroGeoSphere, and then selecting the desired coverage from the right-click menu.
After features on the HydroGeoSphere have been defined, the coverages need to be mapped to the HydroGeoSphere. This is done by right-clicking on the coverage and selecting the Apply to submenu then selecting the desired simulation. Coverages that are not applied to a HydroGeoSphere simulation will not have the properties in the coverage included in the simulation run.
Boundary Conditions Coverage
GMS uses feature objects to define the boundary conditions on a HydroGeoSphere boundary conditions coverage. This includes points, arcs, and polygons. Each of these feature objects type have their own unique properties dialog where the parameters are set. GMS uses this coverage to pin point all the grid components associated with the boundary conditions so they can be included in the HydroGeoSphere simulation run.
Observations Coverage
GMS allows recording of observation data from the HydroGeoSphere model run through observation points on a HydroGeoSphere observations coverage. After an observation point is created, GMS outputs timeseries information specific to the observation point during the simulation run. To create an observation point, select a point to designate as an observation point and set the parameters inside the Point Properties dialog. The coverage then needs to be added to the simulation.
Hydrographs Coverage
GMS allows recording of hydrograph data from the HydroGeoSphere model run. This requires that "Hydrograph" is set as the parameter for an arc or point on a HydroGeoSphere hydrograph coverage, which is done inside the Arc Properties dialog or the Point Properties dialog, respectively. The coverage then needs to be added to the simulation. Upon the simulation run, GMS will output detailed flow rate information at each time step for each feature object that has been assigned a hydrograph.
