To use MODFLOW-NWT (Newton package) in an existing MODFLOW project, use the following processes:

1. Change the simulation to use MODFLOW-NWT.
  1. Select MODFLOW | Global Options.
  2. In the MODFLOW Global/Basic Package dialog, select the NWT radio button.
2. Activate the UPW and NWT packages.
  1. In the MODFLOW Global/Basic Package dialog, select the Packages button.
  2. In the MODFLOW Packages/Processes dialog, select the UPW – Upstream Weighting option.
    • The NWT – Newton solver option will automatically be selected when the UPW package is selected.
3. Set UPW options.
  1. Select MODFLOW | UPW – Upstream Weighting menu command.
  2. Set options in the UPW Package dialog.
4. Set NWT solver options.
  1. Select MODFLOW | NWT – Newton Solver menu command.
  2. Set options in the MODFLOW NWT Solver dialog.
5. Specify PHIRAMP.
  1. Select MODFLOW | Optional Packages | WEL – Wel menu command.
  2. In the MODFLOW Well Package dialog, specify PHIRAMP.
