A powerful part of WMS is its ability to use feature objects (points, lines, and polygons) to conceptualize real world objects, and apply that conceptual design to watershed models. This data is termed "Map data" in WMS. Based on its purpose, Map data is grouped together into Coverages. Some of the most common Coverage types used in WMS are listed below:
- Drainage
- Storm Drain
- 1D-Hyd Centerline
- 1D-Hyd Cross Section
- Area Property
- NFF Region
- Soil Type
- Land Use
- Time Computation
