To work with GIS data into SMS, use the following steps:
Using GIS in SMS
2. Convert data.

- Interpolate data to scatter module, grid module, mesh module, or map coverage.
- Convert GIS data to feature contours, TINs, scatter set, or 2D grid.

Using GIS with ArcObjects® in SMS
Requires having a valid ArGIS® license.
3. Add GIS properties.
|
- Right-click on the GIS object and select the Join Table to Layer command.
- Use the Select Table to join to dialog to specify table information to add to the GIS object.
- If it appears, use the Join dialog to specify which attribute field in the GIS object will receive the table data.

4. Manage GIS layer properties.
|
- Right-click on the GIS object and select the Properties command.
- Use the Layer Properties dialog to specify layer properties.

5. Convert ArcObjects®.
|
1. Convert to feature objects.
|
- Select the Mapping | ArcObjects → Feature Objects command.
|
2. Convert to geodatabase.
|
- Select the Mapping | Feature Objects → Geodatabase command.
