Generic Cartesian Grid Coverage
SMS provides the option to work in a Generic Cartesian Grid coverage. Selecting this coverage allows using the Create 2D Grid Frame tool. After creating a grid frame in the map module, use the Map → 2D Grid command to create a Cartesian grid.
The coverage also allows for selecting the grid frame and defining the grid frame attributes before using the Map → 2D Grid command.
The Generic Cartesian Grid Coverage provides a limited number of tools and options in the Cartesian Grid Module.
Creating a Generic Grid
SMS provides the option to work in a Generic Cartesian Grid coverage. Selecting this coverage allows using the Create 2D Grid Frame tool.
- Select the Create 2D Grid Frame tool
- Click a grid frame in the desired coverage area in the Graphics Window.
After creating a grid frame in the map module, the Map → 2D Grid command becomes available.

- Create Cartesian Grid
- Add Contour Label
- Select Grid Cell Points
