To import GIS data into SMS, use the following steps:
| 1. SMS project setup.

| 1. Start SMS, or clear existing projects in SMS.

- If SMS is already running, select File | Delete All.
- A new project can also be started by using CTRL + N.

| 2. Import data.
|
- Load shapefiles.
- Load additional data, such MIF/MID files.
- Load GIS Layers.
|
| 3. Add properties.
|
- Join table data properties.
- Set projections.
- Define mapping properties.
- Manage GIS layers.
|
| 4. Convert data.
|
- Interpolate data to scatter module, grid module, mesh module, or map coverage.
- Convert shapefiles to feature objects or TINs.
