To import data in to SMS, use the following steps:
| 1. SMS project setup.

| 1. Start SMS, or clear existing projects in SMS.
|
- If SMS is already running, select File | Delete All.
- A new project can also be started by using CTRL + N.

| 2. Gather data files.
|
- Make certain all data files for the project have been collected.
|
| 3. Open files.
|
- Use the File | Open command to launch the Open dialog.
- Locate the files to be opened. Multiple files may be opened at once.
|
| 4. Review data.
|
- Check data check data to see that it shows up in the Project Explorer and any feature objects are in the Graphics Window.
- Check data projection.
- Check data attributes.
