SMS:CAD Data Workflow

To import CAD data into SMS, use the following steps:

1. SMS project setup.
1. Start SMS, or clear existing projects in SMS. If SMS is already running, select File | Delete All. A new project can also be started by using CTRL + N. 2. Set the display projection. Select the Display | Projection... command. Set the horizontal and vertical projection using the Display Projection dialog.

2. Gather data files.
Make certain all data files for the project have been collected. Certain file types need to be in the same folder with other files. Be certain the data files are not located in different folders. Before importing, check that the data is in a file type that SMS can recognize.

3. Open files.
Use the File | Open command to launch the Open dialog. Locate the files to be opened. Multiple files may be opened at once using the Ctrl key. For GIS data, switch to the GIS module and use the Data | Add GIS Data command.

4. Review data.
Check data to see that it shows up in the Project Explorer and any feature objects are in the Graphics Window. Check data projection. Check data attributes. When done checking the data, continue with the project.
