In general, to build a TUFLOW model in SMS, use the following steps:

3. Review and edit elevation data.
  1. Review and set object Projections.
  2. Remove erroneous points.
  3. Add breaklines.
  4. Merge datasets.
  5. Stamp new features (channel, roadway embankment, or other).
4. Define model limits (domain).
  1. Generate a TUFLOW Grid Extents coverage in the map module.
  2. Digitize arcs to define grid limits.
  3. Create arcs along key breaklines and notable features (banklines, structures, piers, road embankments, etc.).
  4. Assign scatter data.
  5. Create the grid frame.
  6. Generate grid.
5. Set-up boundary conditions.
  1. Create a TUFLOW 1D/2D BCs and Links coverage.
  2. Assign boundary conditions to arcs.
6. Define general material properties.
TUFLOW requires both general material data properters and TUFLOW specific materials.
  1. Open the Materials Data dialog.
  2. Add materials.
7. TUFLOW simulation setup.
  1. Create new simulation.
  2. Add components to simulation.
8. Define TUFLOW material sets.
  1. Create new material set.
  2. Add define material properties.
8. Define TUFLOW model properties.
Bring up the TUFLOW Model Control dialog and define parameters as needed for:
  1. Time including time steps, start and end times.
  2. Output including map outputs, dataset outputs, and log outputs.
  3. Wetting and drying settings.
  4. Restart files options.
  5. Initial water levels.
  6. Eddy viscosity formulation.
  7. Boundary condition events.
  8. Constituent properties.
  9. Material set management.
  10. Miscellaneous options.
  11. 1D general controls.
  12. 1D network controls.
  13. 1D automatic manholes.
9. Run TUFLOW.
  1. Check model simlation.
  2. Run TUFLOW.
10. Review results.
  1. Open _XMDF file.
  2. Results layers.
  3. Observation lines.
  4. Summary table.
  5. Run the Plot Wizard.
  6. Data calculator.
11. Compare datasets.
12. Data visualization.
