The Add Shapefile Data command allows users to browse for and open shapefiles as GIS layers in WMS. Without a license of ArcView® on the computer, shapefiles are the only supported format for GIS layers. With a valid license of ArcView®, the Add Data command is activated and any of the ESRI supported formats can be opened as GIS Data Layers.
Shapefiles can be imported directly to coverages (by passing the GIS data layer) in the traditional way by opening them from the File menu.
